Look, I’m as big a fan of Joe Torre as anyone. The guy was a fantastic player and has been an insanely successful manager, but just because he played alongside and has managed some of the best players in history, doesn’t mean that he should compare a bunch of his Dodgers youngsters and an opponent to the game’s elite.
Listening to talk of Torre comparing Clayton Kershaw, Andre Ethier, James Loney and Cliff Lee to the likes of Sandy Koufax, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams and Warren Spahn on TBS broadcasts has finally grown intolerable.
Making such comparisons to this point in young careers is not only inaccurate, it puts undue pressure on emerging stars.
